The New York Giants went on the road on Sunday Night Football to take on the Washington Commanders in a pivotal matchup between the two NFC East Rivals.
After a tie between the two teams just two weeks ago, the rematch became even more important to both teams as the season winds down.
The game ended up being a coming out party for rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux putting the NFL on notice after claiming prime time likes him.
Big Blue played another tight game that came down to the wire and they come up big when it mattered most; here is how Twitter reacted:
Kayvon Thibodeaux strip sack touchdown!!!! Giants up! pic.twitter.com/Fbxnxqf2gl

18 plays. 97 yards.
TOUCHDOWN GIANTS!!!

18 plays 97 yards and 7 points!! Let's go #NYG
— Dave Rothenberg (@RothenbergESPN) December 19, 2022
That was the best possession of the #Giants season. Packers drive held that title before. But man, to drain that much clock; totally flip the momentum, go nearly 100 yards and finish with 7?
That drive nearly took the entire quarter up. #TogetherBlue— Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL) December 19, 2022
That was an 18 play, 97 yard drive
Great job by the #Giants establishing a quick passing attack…the BALLS on the fourth down!
Also, great job by Kafka in the Redzone to get Barkley the touchdown

97 yard STATEMENT! 😤#TogetherBlue

The Giants have a double-digit halftime lead for the first time since Week 17 of the 2020 season vs. Dallas, per @ESPNStatsInfo. Ends a streak of 30 games. Only Jets (32) were currently longer.

Kayvon Thibodeaux has more touchdowns than Kenny Golladay

No. 5 pick Kayvon Thibodeaux is having an UNREAL first half 💪
7 Tackles (6 solo)
3 TFL
1 Sack
1 Fumble Recovery
1 TD pic.twitter.com/Dn2y0zODmU— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) December 19, 2022
I’ve seen enough this year & #DanielJones has exceeded expectations – IMO he will absolutely be the @Giants #QB next year #TogetherBlue #GMEN #NYGiants @insidetheNFL @NFLonCBS @CBSSports

It's been a true rotation at LG. Two series for Gates, two series for Bredeson, two more series for Gates.
— Dan Duggan (@DDuggan21) December 19, 2022
I’m no LB expert but Landon Collins has been playing great.
Makes me think he is a better game-day guy than practice guy.
He so instinctive down in the box and trusts what he sees.
— Lᴀᴡʀᴇɴᴄᴇ Tʏɴᴇs (@lt4kicks) December 19, 2022
Don't sleep on how big that Daniel Jones scramble was to turn a punt into a field goal for the best kicker in the NFC #Giants
— Ryan Dunleavy (@rydunleavy) December 19, 2022
Don't want to jinx things, but this is as close to complementary football by all three units as we've seen in a while.
— Patricia Traina (@Patricia_Traina) December 19, 2022
Haven't heard Andrew Thomas' name all night. Have you? Exactly. The left tackle is lights out.
— Pat Leonard (@PLeonardNYDN) December 19, 2022
Richie James is like a rollercoaster ride 😂

Great 3rd down blitz by Wink. 6 in the box v. empty and send Pinnock off the nickel blitz pic.twitter.com/mi1VuBV55T

Giants ball. Dexter Lawrence forces it. Leonard Williams recovers.

THAT BALL IS OUT!! LETS GO!! pic.twitter.com/YNXJUtzA3h

Close the damn game out 26

Saquon stuck on that circle button 😭😭😭😭😭
— Lᴀᴡʀᴇɴᴄᴇ Tʏɴᴇs (@lt4kicks) December 19, 2022
Saquon had 39 yards on his first 12 carries. Just ripped off 41 yards on 3 carries to start this drive.
— Dan Duggan (@DDuggan21) December 19, 2022
Saquon Barkley has suddenly found his form.
Running right up the middle of the Commanders defense, when they have to know he's running the ball, he ripped off three straight runs to start this drive of 12, 15 and 14 yards.
— Ralph Vacchiano (@RalphVacchiano) December 19, 2022
Cris Collinsworth just called Saquon Barkley a “whirling dervish”.
— Zack Rosenblatt (@ZackBlatt) December 19, 2022
Barkley working that B- button nicely.
— Jerry Ferrara (@jerryferrara) December 19, 2022
Great play call, by the way, on that Daniel Jones' pull and keep.
— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) December 19, 2022
Reminder that the Giants are going to the end of the stadium that the teams have been passing on long FGs. Would be 49 yards from here. Do they let Jones throw? I would.
— Dan Duggan (@DDuggan21) December 19, 2022
Don't say this often about kickers, but Graham Gano is a beast.
— Dan Duggan (@DDuggan21) December 19, 2022
That’s a bad man! 👀 you Grahamy!
BIG TIME KICK!
— Lᴀᴡʀᴇɴᴄᴇ Tʏɴᴇs (@lt4kicks) December 19, 2022
I can’t believe that wasn’t an interception to win the game ..
— Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL) December 19, 2022
Like last time, Giants defense allowed Washington to march downfield late in the game.
But the script flipped this time around. No chance for overtime. Giants defense did just enough to seal the win. #TogetherBlue

That’ll be EIGHT UGLY WINS for our New York Giants!!
We’ll be last in the league in style points as long as we’re posting Wins baby!!!
8-5-1 and in the drivers seat for a Wild Card spot.

“Prime time likes me”
Iconic foreshadowing from Kayvon Thibodeaux

Washington beat the Falcons on 11/27. The following day they started to prepare for the Giants. Their schedule went Giants, bye, Giants. They’ve only thought about the Giants for three weeks and ended up with a tie and a home loss. Not good.
— Geoff Schwartz (@geoffschwartz) December 19, 2022
Saquon Barkley gained +5 first downs over expected in the Giants 20-12 victory over the Commanders, the most by an RB in a game since Alvin Kamara's historic 6-TD performance on Christmas day in 2020 (+5).#NYGvsWAS | #TogetherBlue pic.twitter.com/qVbtKHcFHH

The Giants have clinched, at minimum, a .500 season. First time since 2016.
Huge favorites now to reach the postseason as well. They are 8-5-1.
