The New York Giants and running back Saquon Barkley may be no closer to resolving their contract standoff, but that hasn’t prevented the superstar from preparing for the 2023 regular season.
Barkley has been hard at work in recent months, training diligently and even getting some face-time in with his teammates. He joined them in Arizona earlier this offseason and also got together with quarterback Daniel Jones for some work last week.
Barkley and Jones were spotted throwing passes at a North Jersey High School after a couple of youth baseball teams gathered for the District All-Star Game. Among them was the son of WFAN’s Brandon Tierney.
What a day!! Boys punch a ticket to states and Big Blue’s dynamic duo getting in some reps on the side field.
So gracious with all of the kids. Absolute class acts. pic.twitter.com/ZYLz9gB75f

Sounds like Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley stopped their workout session and hung out with the group for more than a bit: took pics, threw passes and signed autographs. Pretty cool development for kids who had their baseball game moved because the fields were under water. #NYG

Barkley had previously expressed displeasure with the Giants over some negotiation leaks that he felt made him look “greedy.” He also left the door open to skipping the season if the two sides are unable to come to an agreement on a long-term deal by the July 17 deadline.
But Barkley working with Jones should be viewed with optimism among fans. Although negotiations between the Giants and Barkley are a bit sour at the moment, the running back remains close with his Big Blue brethren. And it’s noteworthy that he’s putting in so much effort to prepare for the upcoming season.
