Gianluca Scamacca’s first words after sealing West Ham transfer from Sassuolo

West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca has spoken for the first time since sealing a £30.5million move to the London Stadium from Serie A side Sassuolo.

Scamacca’s arrival makes him the Hammers' fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Alphonse Areloa, Nayef Aguerd and Flynn Downes from Paris Saint-Germain, Stade Rennais and Swansea City respectively.

Despite links with Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, Scamacca, who scored 16 Serie A goals last season, opted to join the Hammers. Speaking after sealing the move, the Italian explained why he wanted to join the side who are competing in the play-off qualifying rounds of this season’s Europa Conference League.

“I am really excited to join West Ham,” Scamacca told the club's website. “I’ve waited a long time for this moment – it’s been a dream to play in the Premier League.

“I feel like West Ham is the perfect team for me. They showed they really wanted me and when I spoke to the manager there was an instant understanding.

“I can’t wait to play and show the supporters what I can do in the West Ham shirt – I hope we will love each other.”

Last season, the Italian forward scored three headers in Serie A, more than any other current West Ham player in league matches last term. Scamacca will hope to make his official Hammers debut on Sunday, August 7 against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
