GHMC to begin survey of dilapidated structures

Ahead of monsoons, GHMC is taking the customary stock of dilapidated structures across the city, to prevent any untoward incidents during heavy rains.

There were a total 618 structures identified in dilapidated condition in 2021, out of which 201 structures were demolished and 129 structures have been either repaired or sealed, a statement informed.

Instructions have been issued to the deputy city planners and assistant city planners for an action plan to deal with the dilapidated structures as part of the monsoon preparedness drive.

They have been asked to conduct detailed survey for identification of the decrepit structures in their jurisdiction and forward the same to the Engineering wing for report on structural stability.

On receipt of report from Engineering wing, the list of all dilapidated structures should be finalised in each circle after due verification, with the balance carried from previous year.

Notices should be issued to the occupants of the building notifying them about the structure’s status. They should be asked to either vacate the premises or get the building repaired and certified for structural stability.

For the buildings which are vacated, an action plan should be prepared for demolition. The officials are to take necessary action and submit a compliance report.

Instructions have been issued to the Engineering section also to respond immediately in assessment of the dilapidated structures and submission of report.

The Zonal Commissioners, GHMC will overview and coordinate for implementation of the monsoon action plan.
