Ghislaine Maxwell feared $1m bounty on her head as she worries for pal Prince Andrew

Sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell feared a “million-dollar bounty” was on her head and that she would be murdered in her sleep in a tough New York jail.

The disgraced British socialite discussed the plot to have her killed behind bars as she settled into life inside her new Florida prison.

Before being transferred to FCI Tallahassee after her trial and sentencing, 60-year-old Maxwell was held on remand in the Metropolitan Detention Centre, Brooklyn.

She said: “There was a woman who made a threat, said she had a plan to murder me as I was sleeping. There had even been claims of a $1million bounty.”

During her time in the MDC, Maxwell complained about “painful” and “humiliating” body-cavity searches, being filmed in the shower and being deprived of hygiene items, such as soap and loo roll.

Now serving her 20 years in her new jail, the daughter of disgraced media tycoon Robert Maxwell has said she is being treated much better.

She said: “Everybody here so far has been extremely professional and I have not experienced any of the gross violations of my rights that I experienced at MDC.

“I don’t feel unsafe. And I am perfectly able to live and work here.”

Maxwell confirmed that she has landed a job in the prison law library.

She told friend and journalist Daphne Barak: “I look at it as an opportunity to use whatever abilities I have to help the people around me, because some of them really don’t have much.”

Maxwell is on the “B South unit” dormitory, which our source said was “one of the better ones”.

They said: “It has an older mix of women, more in keeping with Ghislaine’s age range.”

It emerged yesterday that Maxwell told Barak she felt sorry for her “dear friend” Prince Andrew after he was stripped of his royal titles over links to her paedophile ex boyfriend, Jeffrey Epstein. She told her: “I feel so bad for him. I follow what is happening to him.”

Andrew was stony-faced as he and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson drove to their home in Windsor yesterday.

The Duke of York, 62, was seen behind the wheel of a Range Rover with his former wife the Duchess in the passenger seat.

Maxwell was sentenced in June for the sex trafficking of underage girls for Epstein, who killed himself in jail in 2019.
