A Russian representative was confronted in front of the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday over his nation's alleged war crimes in Ukraine.

While speaking during the UNSC meeting in New York, Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock directly addressed the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Vasily Alekseyevich Nebenzya about nearly 20,000 missing Ukrainian children.

"You can fool yourselves. The most powerful man in your country can hide behind the teenage girls he kidnapped. But you cannot deceive the whole world," Baerbock said, according to an X post from Nexta.

The Ukrainian government has accused Russia of kidnapping 19,500 children since Russia escalated the Russo-Ukrainian War in 2022. Ukraine has reportedly returned less than 400 of them.

"Russia has been committing these crimes for 923 days...children have been kidnapped and tortured. We will not rest until the children are returned to their families," Berbok said. She then added that Nebenzya "always leaves the [UN] room after his speech" and doesn't engage in meaningful discussions.

During her appeal, Nebenzya was described as "bored" and on his smartphone. He then left the room following his speech.
