The Georgia Bulldogs earned another season opening blowout in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Georgia’s 34-3 win over the Clemson Tigers did not come easy.
Clemson limited Georgia football in the first half as the Bulldogs held just a 6-0 lead at halftime. Both teams struggled to run the football in the first half. Georgia used a pair of field goals from Peyton Woodring including a career-high 55-yard field goal to lead 6-0.
In the second half, Georgia’s offense found its rhythm. Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo called more passes on first down. Quarterback Carson Beck helped Georgia have a much more explosive second half. He completed 23 of 33 passes for 273 passing yards and two touchdowns. Beck and the Georgia offense avoided turnovers, which was critical to keep Clemson at a distance.
Georgia running back Nate Frazier flashed playmaking ability en route to an 11 carry, 83-yard and one touchdown performance. Transfer wide receivers Colbie Young and London Humphreys both scored second half touchdowns.
The Georgia defense limited Clemson to only 188 total yards. Georgia safety Malaki Starks had a beautiful, acrobatic interception where he showed off his incredible range. Georgia linebacker Jalon Walker recorded 1.5 sacks in Georgia’s win.
“Win the next one,” said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart after the win. Georgia plays Tennessee Tech next Saturday in the Bulldogs’ home opener.
