Georgia May Jagger on beauty standard pressure as she launches brand

Models and socialites were out in force for the launch of Georgia May Jagger’s new skincare brand at 1 Hotel Mayfair this week. Jagger was in high spirits, and told us that the night felt “surreal”. “I’ve never been to a launch of something where I’ve created it from the beginning,” she said.

The brand is called May Botanicals, and Jagger, who models the products, was worried that people might think she was just the face of the brand, not the brains behind it. “I did it from the beginning and I’m the sole investor,” she tells us. “I started everything from the formulations to art directing the campaign”.

The daughter of rock royalty has been modelling since she was fourteen. She made her first foray into business when she became co-owner of Bleach London, the go-to salon for wacky hair colours and peroxide makeovers. After struggling with eczema and psoriasis, Jagger turned her attention to organic skincare products for people with sensitive skin.

When it comes to beauty inspirations, Georgia keeps it in the family. “I think my mum’s a big inspiration to me because she does all her own hair and makeup,” she says. We toddle over to the mother in question, supermodel Jerry Hall, to relay this information. “Well that’s very sweet!” Jerry says in her soothing Texas lilt. She's been using the products for a year now, and testifies that they “really work”.

While she’s known for her voluminous blonde mane and glamorous makeup, these days Hall is channeling Pamela Anderson at Paris Fashion Week. “Most days I go makeup free, unless I’m going out on the town,” she says. How does she stay looking so youthful? The answer is simple, apparently: “Moisturiser. I like to stay moisturised”. Hall has been vocal about her aversion to plastic surgery, and ex-husband Mick Jagger was hailed by his daughter Elizabeth as having “one of the craggiest faces in the world”.

Georgia May shares her parents’ values. “It feels like younger and younger we’re expected to kind of be this same standard of beauty,” she tells us, caveating that she doesn’t judge other people for getting a little nip and tuck. Jagger is famous for the gap in her front teeth, which she says people were telling her to fix for years.

While Jerry and Mick would never go under the knife, they both have notably youthful looking hair, without a grey in sight. And Georgia, who has dyed her hair every colour of the rainbow, admits that she will keep doing it, “probably forever”.
