Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart often emphasizes the challenges of playing in the SEC. The Bulldogs are 5-0 and have a long SEC regular season winning streak that dates back to 2020.
Kirby Smart focused on how tough it is playing at Auburn following Georgia’s 27-20 road win against the Tigers.
This week, Smart and No. 1 Georgia will face their first ranked opponent of the season in No. 20 Kentucky. Kirby Smart went on to say that every team in the SEC should be ranked.
I personally think every SEC team should be ranked. I guarantee you that there are some teams that don’t want to play them that are ranked.
We are going to have to disagree with Kirby Smart here because Vanderbilt is in the SEC. The Commodores are not close to being a ranked team and already have defeats to UNLV, Wake Forest, Kentucky, and Missouri.
Additionally, the conference has three-loss teams like Arkansas, South Carolina, and Mississippi State that have shown they don’t deserve to be ranked.
Kirby Smart thinks that any team in the SEC can beat Georgia if the Dawgs don’t play well.
I literally have no idea what you’re referencing because every team in the SEC is good enough to beat us. Whether they’re ranked or not, I could care less. I’m trying to be more physical to them and outscore them, and that’s the only thing I’m concerned with, not their ranking.
Rankings this early in the season don’t matter too much, but they can bias rankings later in the year.
Where Kirby Smart does have a good point is that every team in the SEC is very talented. The SEC has 10 of the nation’s 25 most talented rosters according to 247Sports. However, Vanderbilt still has the nation’s No. 58 most talented roster when using this metric.
