George Finch: Key moments in teenage Reform council leader’s first year in office

  • 13 July 2025: George Finch, just 18-years old at the time, is selected by Reform UK to lead Warwickshire County Council after the previous leader resigns.
  • 22 July 2025 : Mr Finch, now 19-years-old, is officially voted in as council leader, overseeing hundreds of millions of pounds of public spending. Labour MP for Birmingham Edgbaston, Preet Gill , says the people of Warwickshire “frankly deserve better”.
  • 6 August 2025: Warwickshire Police hit back at claims made by Mr Finch that police had held back information about the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton.
  • 13 October 2025: Mr Finch reports being assaulted in Nuneaton town centre, saying his alleged attacker called him a “racist” and a “fascist.” He attributes the incident to “dangerous rhetoric” from Labour and the Greens.
  • 10 March 2026 : Mr Finch faces a vote of no confidence , initiated by Green Party group leader Jonathan Chilvers, alleging that Finch had “abused the office of leader” and brought the council into “disrepute”. He narrowly survives and stays in post.
