Gentleman Jack season 2 release date confirmed as Suranne Jones drama returns

Gentleman Jack is returning to BBC One for a second series, and the release date is sooner than you think. The broadcaster has dropped a full-length trailer with new and returning cast members ahead of its highly-anticipated comeback.

The period drama, which is based on the real-life diaries of Anne Lister, is written by Sally Wainwright and first aired in 2019. The second series will see Suranne Jones, Sophie Rundle and Lydia Leonard reprise their roles as Anne Lister, Ann Walker and Mariana Lawton.

A synopsis for the new series reads: "Yorkshire, 1834. All eyes are on Anne Lister and Ann Walker as they set up home together at Shibden Hall as wife and wife, determined to combine their estates and become a power couple. Anne Lister's entrepreneurial spirit frightens the locals as much as her unconventional love life and, with Halifax on the brink of revolution, her refusal to keep a low profile becomes provocative and dangerous."

Meanwhile, Joanna Scanlan joins Gentleman Jack as guest cast for series two, playing Anne Lister's outrageous former lover Isabella 'Tib' Norcliffe.
