Ashamed Rino Gattuso has confessed his son won't let him forget his infamous clash with Joe Jordan.
The Italian was named new head coach of Valencia today as he returns to management for the first time since leaving Napoli last year.
Gattuso is known for his fiery temper and rarely shies away from a confrontation.
He was once sent off for slapping Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but his most famous flashpoint came years later when he got into it with Scotland hero Jordan on the touchline during a Champions League clash in 2011.
Then playing for AC Milan, he attempted to manhandle the Tottenham coach before being brushed off by the irate Jordan, who remains the only Scot to have netted in three consecutive World Cups.
And Gattuso - who was signed for Rangers by Walter Smith in 1997 before being sold by Dick Advocaat to Salernitana for £4million the following year - admits he doesn't look back at the incident with any pride.
He admits it was a "mistake" and confessed he feels "shame" every time his son asks about it.
He said: "I made a mistake and I feel ashamed. It’s something I did and it was an unjustifiable error.
"I could say that these things happen on the pitch, but I am ashamed of it.
"I have a 14-year-old son. Do you think I am not ashamed every time he rightly asks me why I did it?"
