General Hospital spoilers: Sonny finds out the truth about Jason and the FBI, and he remains furious?

Maurice Benard and Steve Burton as Sonny and Jason in tense moment in General Hospital.

It’s been months since General Hospital’s Jason (Steve Burton) has been back on the soap canvas, and he’s no closer to reconnecting with two of the most important people in his life. Sam (Kelly Monaco) may be a lost cause at this point because now that she knows Jason disappeared for years to save Carly (Laura Wright) from going to prison, the private investigator has completely washed her hands of him (well in the meantime at least).

Then there’s Sonny (Maurice Benard). For decades, Jason was Sonny’s right-hand man, confidant and best friend. In fact, there’s an argument to be made that Jason was the most loyal person in Sonny’s orbit. However, between realizing that Jason and Carly love each other and finding out Jason has been working as an informant with FBI, Sonny no longer sees Jason as a person of value in his life. The kingpin has even gone as far as threatening to kill him.

As longtime fans of the soap, we just assumed that with time Jason and Sonny would repair their friendship. Unfortunately, that’s not proven to be the case yet.

Looking to the General Hospital episode airing on July 10, it appears Carly will urge Jason to just tell Sonny the unfiltered truth about why he’s been gone and working with the FBI. We have a hunch that Carly believes the truth will be what defrosts the icy tension between the two men, but is she right? Take a look at the preview clip for the episode.

Having said all of that, we’re not sure Jason is going to be sold on the idea of confessing to Sonny. With Sonny not on the right dosage of bipolar medication, he’s been behaving quite erratically. Jason may fear that telling Sonny the truth will only push him to do something extreme like attempt to kill John Cates (Adam J. Harrington) to eliminate the threat to Carly.

Of course, that would be a horrible plan given the audio of Carly confessing to leading the Corinthos organization is in the FBI database, and not even Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) could delete it. So getting rid of John could just open the door for another agent to come and use the file to prosecute Carly. (Although if Sonny knew about the audio, there’s a chance he could have Brick [Stephen A. Smith] attempt to retrieve and delete the file, but we digress.)

But let’s say that Jason does tell Sonny or he finds out some other way, we don’t know that the information will be the key to unlocking Sonny's forgiveness for Jason. Sonny wasn’t thrilled when Jason swooped in and helped Carly get her half of the hotel back after the kingpin already offered to give her the money for the purchase and she turned him down. The Don Juan of Port Charles was furious that Carly let Jason play her hero.

For Sonny, it was just proof that Jason and Carly always loved each other and it signaled to him that Carly never loved him, despite their many years together. Sonny may have moved on from Carly these days, but she may just be the love of his life, so it’s natural if jealousy rears its ugly head.

If Sonny finds out that Jason spent years away from his children and other family members, and allowed himself to be used by the FBI all in an effort to protect Carly, this level of sacrifice may send Sonny’s jealousy into overdrive. How can he compete with that kind of demonstration of love?

Now this is one of those rare times when we hope we’re wrong. We hope Sonny finds out the truth and actually is appreciative of Jason’s loyalty to Carly, and by extension, Sonny’s family as Jason has spared the mother of his children from going to prison. However, we’ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out.
