Gemma Owen and Luca Bish have been branded 'hypocrites' by a number of Love Island fans in the aftermath of the very public way they announced they're now boyfriend and girlfriend.
Having been together since the end of the first week of the ITV dating show's most recent series, Gemma and Luca made it all the way to the final, finishing second to 2022 winners Ekin-Su and Davide. They were put on the spot live on air by now ex Love Island host Laura Whitmore on what was next for them and when they'd become an official couple, with both Michael Owen's daughter Gemma and Brighton fishmonger Luca saying they were happy for the time being, with him teasing he had something planned.
Well that something was a very grand gesture to ask Gemma to be his other half, with him filling an apartment with red balloons and red roses, before leading Gemma outside to find 'Be My Girlfriend' spelled out in balloons in the swimming pool. Luca uploaded a video of the romantic moment to his Instagram, with Gemma sharing a series of photos from their evening onto her account and writing: "Finally official. Thank you @lucabish for such a special night!"

The reaction to Gemma and Luca's news was massive, with her ex and Love Island co-star Jacques O'Neill telling Luca: "Took you long enough. Lovely though mate happy for yous both." Ekin-Su told Gemma: " Luca did well...congratulations."
Ekin's response was seized on by Love Island fans who hadn't forgotten how cutting Gemma and Luca had been in the villa when Davide asked her to be his girlfriend, with Gemma accused of being 'bitter' as she reacted: ", we didn't do something like that for people to know that we are exclusive and I'd prefer it to be that way."
One fan tweeted a series of photos of Luca's gesture and added the words: "Gemma and Luca in the villa 'We don't have to make a big show about being official like some people in here.' Also Gemma and Luca..." Another posted: "Gemma and Luca are such hypocrites. This is soo sad after all the trash they were chatting about the other couples."
A third commented: "...not even Ekin and Davide did a big gesture in order for them to become bf and gf. Just accept that Gemma and Luca are a bitter pair and move on lmao."
