Gemma Atkinson has blasted comments left on her Instagram posts from critics as she gave her fans a glimpse into her home workout routines. Fans of the former soap actress who follow her on social media will be used to seeing her posting about working out as well as other mental health and fitness matters.
In one video, posted last week, Gemma could be seen in her workout gear as she got to grips with a kettlebell at her and her fiancé Gorka Marquez’s very own gym at their home.
Gemma then moved on to lifting weights and taking time out on an exercise bike. She wrote alongside the post: “Never easy, but always worth it! Snippets from today’s lower body session. Lighter than usual as I have a little knee niggle at the minute so I adapted to what was comfortable and safe and cracked on.”
The 37-year-old then added: “Ps. How adorable is little Norman watching,” referring to one of her beloved pet pooches who joined her. And Strictly Come Dancing star couldn’t help but leave a cheeky message, writing: “Don’t know why but i can’t stop looking at your ,” adding a peach emoji.
Fans were also quick to comment, asking Gemma about her routine, for tips and just generally applauding her efforts, according to Manchester Evening News. @packsta74 said: “Your motivation is unreal!” @stottyl4 commented: “Go girl …wish I could work out like you!” @charchee21 added: “Love this but couldn’t help looking at Norman.”
Gemma was back with another clip a few days later as she tackled a tricep rope before getting involved in some mat work, again with one of her adorable dogs in tow. “ By this point my co ordination, balance and energy had well and truly gone,” she told her millions of followers.
“Still, I got it done! 1 min of each for 20 mins with the only note from my trainer ‘Go Hard’ Can’t be a short and sweet Saturday sweat,” the former Hollyoaks and Emmerdale star added.
Again, Gemma was flooded with messages but they weren’t all on the kind side, leading to the mum-of-one hitting back at being told she is working out ‘to keep Gorka’ while another cruelly said: “Her bloke will cheat on her if she stops training.”
Sharing a couple of the messages to her Instagram Story, the Bury-born star hit back: “We seem to have gone back a few decades [face palm emoji].”
She then added: “Note to anyone starting out with training/health regime. Doing it for anyone but yourself is a set up for failure. Do it for YOU! YOU deserve to feel YOUR best. Shut out the noise and crack on.”
Gemma has since returned to Instagram with a message and self care which has struck a chord with her followers. Sharing a quote which read ‘Take care of yourself. You’re the only one you’ve got’, she added: “ Self care?? On a Monday?? But we have too much to do!…. EXACTLY!!
“That’s why it’s essential to be in the right frame of mind to do it all. If everyone and everything around you is at peace while you’re in pieces something is wrong. Self care isn’t selfish, it’s necessary.”
