Muhammad Hassan Abu Watfa, a 30-year-old father in Gaza, is feeling relieved as his 3-year-old son, Hassan, has been granted a medical evacuation to Cairo for treatment of his immunodeficiency disease. This comes after fears that Hassan's health was deteriorating due to the lack of access to medication caused by Israel's siege on aid entering the strip.
Hassan will be traveling with his 1-year-old sister, Rana, and their mother, Noura, through the Rafah crossing along with other vulnerable patients in need of lifesaving treatment. The family, who had been displaced from northern Gaza to the European Hospital in Khan Younis, has faced Israeli strikes, displacement, and life-altering injuries.
Despite the challenges, Watfa remains hopeful for his son's recovery and his own treatment. He had been severely wounded in a strike while trying to buy bread in northern Gaza, resulting in the amputation of his right foot. Now, as his family embarks on this journey for medical care, Watfa eagerly awaits news of their well-being and hopes for a reunion in the future.
