NEW DELHI: Gautam Gambhir's tenure as Team India's head coach started on a high note as the Men in Blue, under new captain Suryakumar Yadav, swept Sri Lanka 3-0 in the three-match Twenty20 International series. Gambhir was appointed as Rahul Dravid's successor and has been given a long-term contract, leading the team until the end of 2027.
After Dravid decided not to continue following the T20 World Cup, Gambhir quickly emerged as the frontrunner for the coaching position, especially after returning to the Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor for the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 2024 edition. Under his mentorship, KKR clinched their third IPL title in 2024.
