Gary Neville slams Aaron Ramsey for 'coward's tackle' on Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson

Gary Neville has criticised Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey for his late tackle on Jordan Henderson during England's 3-0 victory over their neighbours at the World Cup in Qatar.

Henderson earned his first start of the tournament against Rob Page's side and played the full 90 minutes as the Three Lions progressed to the knockout stages with a comfortable 3-0 win that put Wales on the plane back home.

The Liverpool captain was an audible presence throughout the contest, but was left on the turf when Nice star Ramsey clattered into him on the hour mark. Henderson screamed as Ramsey's studs ploughed into his ankle and required treatment on the pitch.

The Welshman received a yellow card for his troubles, but former England defender Neville took a dim view of the incident.

Speaking about the foul on his own podcast, Neville said: “I didn’t like it. I thought it was a coward’s tackle, I thought he knew what he was doing. Jordan just had something with him on a different part of the pitch, I watched them half follow each other, and I thought it was a naughty one that.”

Despite the reckless challenge, Henderson was able to continue and played the full match as Gareth Southgate's side cruised into the last-16 with a comfortable 3-0 win.

By starting Henderson, England were able to get Jude Bellingham further forward and that has now given their manager something of a midfield headache as he tries to select the best combination to overcome Senegal in the first knockout stage on Sunday evening.

Should Henderson get the nod, it will be his 10th World Cup appearance for England at his third World Cup.
