Gary Neville lays into Hugo Lloris after Tottenham howler vs Arsenal - "just so poor"

Gary Neville slammed after Hugo Lloris after the Tottenham goalkeeper made another mistake during Sunday afternoon's North London Derby against Arsenal.

The Gunners opened the scoring at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Lloris parried Bukayo Saka's cross into the net. It's the fourth time the former France captain, 36, has made an error leading to a goal this season, which is the worst record in the Premier League.

Lloris' latest howler will only amplify speculation about his future. Tottenham are considering making a move for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, 28, to replace Lloris, although they are not expected to swoop for the England international until the summer.

Commentator Neville told Sky Sports after Arsenal took the lead: "There’s no doubt Arsenal have been the better side. They just get in down this side, little spin, lovely little run from Saka. [Cristian] Romero in the middle is playing him onside, and then [Ryan] Sessegnon is intent on showing him onto his right foot and he does, and he takes that opportunity.

"There’s a little deflection there I think off Sessegnon, which I still think they’ve got to do better at that near post. Watching it here as he kicks it with his right foot I’m pretty certain there’s a deflection and Lloris, that’s just so poor.

"He started shakily with his feet, Lloris, and he’s followed it on now with his hands. Some may say there’s a deflection there that potentially causes him more of a problem, but he has to deal with that. It’s not good enough. For Arsenal, they’ve played all their football, they’ve settled into the game. I’m not sure who he [Lloris] is complaining to."

Do you think it's time for Tottenham to replace Hugo Lloris? Let us know in the comments below!

Lloris has struggled for form since France lost the World Cup final to Argentina on penalties last month. He announced his international retirement at the beginning of January and, considering his poor form, it may be time for him to quit Tottenham, too.

Saka was congratulated by his Arsenal team-mates for the opener, but it was registered as an own-goal for Lloris because Saka's cross was not on target.

Ex-Premier League striker Clinton Morrison also expressed his disappointment at Lloris' latest error. He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "The run from Saka is brilliant. It's poor goalkeeping from Lloris. He flaps it into the net. It's another goalkeeping mistake. Poor from him.

"He could just catch it, there is nobody near him. You don't need that in a derby game... We're saying this too many times about Lloris with him making mistakes in big games and costing Tottenham. You can't afford to go 1-0 down against a good Arsenal side.

"Lloris is the captain, he has got to lead by example. He is struggling either with confidence or lack of form because he is nowhere near the goalkeeper he was a few years ago. He has to get that out of his head and keep going for the rest of the game."

It's exactly two weeks since Lloris was at fault for Aston Villa's first goal during their 2-0 win at Tottenham. Graeme Souness described Lloris as "past his sell-by date".
