Former England defender Gary Neville insists players and ex-footballers have been unfairly targeted while others with links to Middle Eastern countries go unscrutinised.
Neville has been heavily criticised for taking up a role with Qatari broadcaster beIN Sports to cover the World Cup in the Gulf state. The Manchester United legend has been in the spotlight more than most as a result, but other pundits have also had to explain why they are not boycotting a tournament hosted by a country with such a poor human rights record.
That is despite many British companies and the Royal Family having "sporting and charitable" relationships with Middle Eastern countries, according to Neville. The 47-year-old claims players and retired professionals are being disproportionately "penalised" for travelling to Qatar and delivered an impassioned rant before Senegal took on Netherlands on Monday afternoon.
