Gary Lineker takes sly dig at Sky Sports over post-match Manchester derby coverage

Gary Lineker couldn't resist a thinly-veiled dig at Sky Sports during their post-match coverage of the Manchester derby.

The Match of the Day presenter was watching the likes of Roy Keane, Micah Richards and Jamie Redknapp analyse events at the Etihad after seeing Manchester United dominated at the home of their local rivals Manchester City.

United ended up on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline after braces from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez were more than enough to hand Pep Guardiola's side all three points.

After the game, much of the discussion was centred around United's failings at the Etihad rather than City's captivating brilliance.

And ex-England star took to Twitter to comment on the one-sided post-match discourse.

"Controversial, but I think Man City is worthy of a mention," Lineker wrote on social media.

The result plunged United's hopes of Champions League football next season into doubt, as Ralf Rangnick's men now find themselves in fifth place behind Arsenal having played three games more.

United could even be caught by the Gunners north London neighbours Tottenham, who are five points behind but have also played three games less than the Red Devils.

Ex-United star Roy Keane was scathing in his assessment of his former side, stating that the manner of the defeat was "unforgivable".

"The worst thing you can say about Man Utd is that they gave up, in any game to give up is unforgivable really," the United legend fumed.

"The beauty with top level sports is that there is no hiding place, I know United have come here in the last couple years and done well but we saw all of United’s shortcomings today.

"There’s ways to lose football matches, we’ve all lost football matches but the way United lost today – they stopped running, they gave up, players not running back, that’s what I don’t understand."

His rant was quickly followed by a heated exchange between Gary Neville and Micah Richards, who went back and forth over the decision to appoint Rangnick on an interim basis.

"So are you just getting rid of this season then are you?", the former Man City defender asked Neville, implying Rangnick was never up to the task long before he was appointed.

Neville hit back: "You are ranting emotionally without making any sort of sense."

Neville went on to demand an answer from Richards over who United should have appointed instead of Rangnick.

However, once Richards suggested current Spurs boss Antonio Conte, the former United defender was left with his head in his hands.
