Gartcairn boss Mick Dunlop: Home wins are the key to success for us

Gartcairn boss Mick Dunlop says home form is the key to a successful West of Scotland First Division campaign, after downing Thorniewood 1-0 at MTC Park.

Jordan Love’s 30th-minute strike was enough to separate the sides, but Dunlop reckons they could have been further ahead by the interval.

And picking up their first three points at home was hugely important as they head into a clash at league-leaders Whitletts Victoria this weekend.

Dunlop said: “It was good to get the first win of the season, especially at home.

“I told them before the game that if you’re going to be a team that has a successful season your home form needs to be strong.

“That’s four points out of six, which is a decent start for us, but the first half we played a lot of good stuff and maybe could have had a better lead at half-time.

“We scored a good goal but had one or two other chances and could have been maybe 2-0 up.

“In the second half we came out and had two great chances right at the start, and if one of those had gone in it would have been a different game and we would probably have run out comfortable winners.

“But credit to Thorniewood, there was only one goal in it and the longer the game went on, they started coming into it more.

“We cleared one off the line from a corner, but other than that they didn’t cause us too many problems.”

Gartcairn head to Dam Park Stadium for the Vics clash that Dunlop reckons will give them an idea of how they’re progressing.

He said: “We’ve got a difficult game this Saturday away to Whitletts, who have started well, have won their first two games and are sitting top.

“After that we get a break from the league and play two cup games, which is good as well, because it gives us a change.

“It has been a positive start, and there have been a lot of positives, but there’s still lots of work to be done, and plenty of room for improvement.”
