Over the past few days, Jets players have been very public in recruiting Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to agree to play for New York. While most of the recruiting has taken place on Twitter, a few Jets stars went one step further.
Earlier this week, Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner promised he would burn his cheesehead if the Jets traded for Rodgers.
On Thursday night, Gardner fulfilled his promise. He posted a video on YouTube with teammates Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson, showing the three of them burning the cheesehead in solidarity with Rodgers. That was the same cheesehead that Gardner took when the Jets went into Green Bay and beat the Packers last October.
In the video, Gardner called Rodgers “one of, if not, best quarterback in the league right now,” and according to the Jets cornerback, the two had a conversation about that game, and potentially more.
“We settled our differences about the cheesehead and everything like that,” Gardner said. “Our conversation definitely gave me hope that he could be in that green and white next season.
Throughout the video, Gardner cleverly called the cheesehead burning in the fire “cheese sauce,” a nice little play on the entire situation. To close everything out, Gardner looked directly into the camera to make his final, most serious plea to the veteran quarterback.
“Let’s make this happen. I need you to lock in, I need you to come here so we can win a Super Bowl.”
