A new Garda recruitment drive has been announced today and is looking to hire 1,200 new members of the force.
The campaign emphasised they are welcoming applications from 'any and all backgrounds' in order that the police service reflects the increasing diversity of Irish society.
Up to 800 Garda trainees and 400 Garda staff will be drawn from this competition after funding was provided for this purpose in last year's Budget.
