Gardaí have arrested a man as part of an investigation into a sim swapping scheme aimed at defrauding Irish bank customers out of their money.
Officers from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) swooped on the alleged offender in an operation on Thursday morning.
The officers arrested the man in the Tallaght area of Dublin as part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) into sim-swapping, account takeover and money laundering.

The extensive Garda investigation probes fraudulent sim swap attacks targeting customers of an Irish commercial bank which incurred losses of approximately €200,000.
One man has already been charged and convicted in relation to the investigation.
Gardaí at GNECB identified a supplier of SIM cards used to facilitate smishing/sim swap fraud and on Thursday morning, they moved in on the suspect in the Tallaght area. They arrested a man at a residence there as part of this investigation.
The 27-year-old man is currently being detained at Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.
Investigations are ongoing.
