Gardai launch investigation after body found in Kilkenny river

Gardai are investigating all the circumstances after the body of a man was found in a Kilkenny river on Wednesday.

At around 1pm on Wednesday afternoon, the man's body was recovered in the Gortnahoe area.

The man, aged in his 40s, has since been removed to Waterford University Hospital, where a post-mortem will take place at a later date.

It is understood that this is being treated as a tragic incident at this time.

A statement from the force to the Irish Mirror said: "Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of a body of a man in his 40s, in the Gortnahoe area at approximately 1pm on the 16th March 2022.

"His body has been taken to Waterford University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place at a later date, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation."
