Gardai investigating after man, 60s, dies following house fire in Co Offaly

A man has died following a house fire in Co Offaly.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the home in Screggan on Tuesday morning after being alerted to the incident.

A man in his 60s was pronounced dead and his body remains at the scene.

The State Pathologist has been notified and the Garda Technical Bureau will conduct an examination of the scene.

No one else was injured in the incident and local fire services have extinguished the blaze.

A garda spokesperson said: "Tullamore gardai are investigating a fatal fire which occurred at a house in Screggan, Co Offaly this morning, Tuesday 15th March 2022.

"A man aged in his early 60s has been pronounced deceased. His body remains at the scene and the State Pathologist has been notified.

"The fire was extinguished by local fire services.

"The Garda Technical Bureau will conduct an examination of the scene.

"No other persons were injured."
