Gardai hunting armed robber who tried to steal cash from post office with shotgun

Gardaí have launched an investigation into an attempted armed robbery in Killarney on Friday morning.

The horrific incident took place at the post office in the Kerry town on New Street.

A man allegedly entered the post office armed with a shotgun.

He demanded money from the staff, but left with nothing and fled in a black Toyota car.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Killarney attended the scene of an attempted armed robbery that occurred this morning on New Street, Killarney at approximately 10.30a.m.

"One man entered a business premises on New Street armed with a shotgun and demanded money and threatened the staff. He left the scene with nothing and was driven away in a black Toyota car.

"Gardaí are appealing to any persons or road users who were in or near New Street, Killarney this morning and who may have video/dash cam footage or anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward to them.

"Anyone with information are asked to contact Killarney Garda Station at 064 6671160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."

The post office remains closed this afternoon.
