Gardai had to be quick on Friday - after stopping a driver who was speeding at nearly 200kph on one of the busiest roads in the country.
The M7 connects Dublin to Limerick via busy towns like Naas, Newbridge, Portlaoise, Nenagh and others.
It's usually quite busy, particularly on weekends, and it was on Friday afternoon that officers in the midlands nabbed the motorist for going 50kph over the limit.

Already in 2022, there have been 96 deaths on Irish roads, the latest coming just over 24 hours ago.
Officers attached to the Laois Roads Policing Unit helped prevent that number rising, as they explained: "Laois Roads Policing Unit stopped this vehicle travelling at 170kph on the M7 this evening. Prosecution commenced against the driver."
If you drive over the speed limit, you will get 3 penalty points and a fixed charge fine of €80.
If you do not pay the fine within 28 days, it increases to €120.
If after this 56 days you still have not paid your fine, the offence is referred to the courts. If you are convicted in court of speeding offences and non-payment of fines, you will automatically receive 5 penalty points and a fine up to a maximum of €1,000.
If you drive ‘a vehicle in a public place without due care and attention' you can get up to 5 penalty points on your licence and a fine of up to €5,000.
