The reason why gang boss Mr Flashy still uses taxis despite botched hit

Gang boss Mr Flashy is still using taxis to move around – despite being targeted in one in a botched hit less than a month ago.

The Irish Mirror can reveal the 29-year-old Dublin thug continues to be ferried around in cabs to evade his rivals out to kill him. Sources have told how the gangster believes that taxis are harder to follow and move around more quickly as they avail of bus lanes.

The vehicles are also less likely to come under the suspicion of gardai. He and his close associate were in a taxi on June 20 when it came under fire in north-west Dublin but the pair managed to flee on foot.

However, Mr Flashy’s life remains under major threat as part of the war between his Gucci Gang and associates of slain James Whelan, who was shot dead on April 3. And he continues to move between properties in Finglas, North Dublin, and in the city centre.

A source said: “It’s rare you see him out and about in the current environment. When he is out, he’s in a taxi moving to a different location and he’s doing that so he can keep a step ahead of the rival gang. They also move around quicker in Dublin with bus lanes.”

There has been little or no activity in the Finglas feud since the attempt on Flashy’s life. But gardai fear he will team up with other gangs in a bid to wipe out Whelan’s associates.

He recently has come in contact with a well-known criminal, who is linked with Kinahan cartel figures through his female associate. Another source explained: “For Flashy to get backing will take a bit of time but he has had that in recent weeks.

“If he does get it, it brings more volatility to the situation and more serious, hardened criminals. Another aspect is that it would see the feud sprawl elsewhere to other parts of Dublin.” The Finglas feud began as a turf war when Mr Flashy’s one-time ally Whelan turned on him and started operating independently.
