Another piece of memorabilia with ties to the late, great Boston Celtics Hall of Fame big man Bill Russell is up for auction, according to Yahoo’s Bryan Lambert. Per the Yahoo analyst, Russell’s game-worn Celtics warm-up jacket will be available for bidding via the Lelands Summer Classic Auction put together by Leland Auctions.
The white jacket with green and gold trim and letters was worn by the legendary Celtics center in the 1964-65 season. Russell picked up his fifth and last Most Valuable Player award while winning the Celtics (and Russell’s) seventh consecutive and eighth overall title that season.
An iconic figure to not only Boston fans and the wider NBA but also the history of the U.S. civil rights movement of the 1960s, Russell’s No. 6 jersey will be retired league wide this season in memory of his passing at the end of July.
Celtics fans in favor of expansion might be a lot less enthusiastic about it once the daydream becomes a reality. https://t.co/d1F8IlMnNn
