Gallen threatens to ditch NRL fight card

Paul Gallen says he will pull out of his upcoming boxing double-header against NRL contemporaries Justin Hodges and Ben Hannant unless promoters clarify details about the event by the end of the week.

Gallen (12-2-1) has become a bonafide boxer since retiring from rugby league, and had been planning to fight twice on one final fight card at Brisbane's Nissan Arena before hanging up the gloves.

But Gallen says he has still not been told which of his two opponents he will face first on September 15, and whether he will be given breaks between the bouts.

"It's getting frustrating," Gallen told AAP.

"We're two weeks out. Preparation is pretty crucial and I don't know what's happening."

As his retirement draws nearer, Gallen has accused promoters No Limit Boxing of deliberately keeping him in the dark to give either Hodges (5-1) or Hannant (0-1) the chance to announce themselves as boxing's next cross-code star.

"(No Limit) probably need another star to come in, so if I was to get beaten, it probably doesn't really affect them," he said.

"I feel like they're doing everything they can to give these blokes any kind of advantage they can get."

No Limit Boxing's CEO George Rose and founder Matt Rose are currently in France ahead of Ciryl Gane's UFC bout against Tai Tuivasa, whom No Limit manage.

Gallen said if the pair did not answer his questions by the end of the week, he would withdraw from the card.

"It'd just be a sour way for the relationship to end if it was to end this way," he said.

"I texted and said 'I need to know by the end of this week' but got no response.

"If that doesn't happen, then I'm going to pull out."

Gallen warned the consequences of his last-minute scratching could have a ripple effect.

"I can't imagine (pay-per-view broadcaster) Main Event continuing with this event if I was to pull out," he said.

"It affects a whole lot of people."

Gallen will be telling No Limit his preference is to fight Hodges first.

The former Brisbane NRL premiership-winner is the more experienced of the two fighters and at almost 10cm taller than Gallen, poses greater physical challenges than Hannant.

"If (Hodges) went second and something was to go wrong and he was to get me, he's beaten a bloke who's already been in a fight on the same night," Gallen said.

"If he really wants to do it properly, he should take me on first."
