Gabriel Martinelli admits he models part of his game on Arsenal legend Thierry Henry

Much of the discourse surrounding Arsenal so far this season has centred around Brazilian international Gabriel Jesus, but one of his countrymen has also enjoyed a remarkable start to the campaign.

Gabriel Martinelli has developed from a raw but talented prospect to one of the first names on the team sheet in front of the eyes of the expectant Arsenal faithful. This is thanks largely to the young forward's stunning work ethic and ludicrous natural talent.

There may also be a third factor at play and it comes in the form of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. Martinelli has recently admitted he tries to mould his game in the image of the Gunners legend.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Brazil star explained: "I have met him [Henry] before, he is a nice guy. On the pitch he was unbelievable, a legend for the club and for the Premier League. For me, he is the best of all time in the Premier League, he is just an unbelievable player."

It is true that there are some striking similarities in the games of both, with Martinelli's trademark quickly becoming his tendency to start on the left flank before cutting inside to deliver an deadly finish - much like Henry, albeit not quite at the Frenchman's level just yet.

Pressed for comment on whether he watches old clips of Henry as part of improving his own game, Martinelli added: "Yeah, I think everyone does. He was an amazing player and everyone looks up to him."

The young Brazilian even went as far as to identify his favourite Henry goal, with his answer likely to only endear himself further to the Gunners fanbase. He said: "Yeah, that one against Tottenham for sure, that's my favourite one - especially because of his knee-slide celebration."

Martinelli has been among the goals himself this season, scoring twice in three league appearances. His first came in the opening-night victory away at Crystal Palace, while his second was a sublime effort to help the Gunners earn all three points at home to Leicester.

Going into the season, there were question marks over whether Arteta would look to deploy Martinelli as a centre-forward despite mixed results during previous attempts. However, the introduction of Jesus has only helped bring out the best in Martinelli on the left flank. The pair have combined a number of times already and have been essential to Arsenal's return of three wins from their opening three games.
