Gabriel Jesus' Arsenal shirt number confirmed following £45m transfer

Arsenal have confirmed that Gabriel Jesus will wear the number nine jersey following his transfer from Manchester City.

Jesus has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners over the last few months as manager Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his frontline following Alexandre Lacazette's departure at the end of last month. football.london revealed back in April, that the Spaniard was keen on the 25-year-old, who won four Premier League titles in his last five years at the Etihad Stadium.

Now, Arsenal have officially unveiled Jesus as their fourth signing of the summer - following deals for American goalkeeper Matt Turner, young winger Marquinhos and talented Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira. The north London club also confirmed that the former Palmeiras star would don the number nine shirt, taking the number from the aforementioned Lacazette, who decided to rejoin Ligue 1 side Lyon.

"Gabriel will wear the number 9 shirt and will join up with the Gunners squad for pre-season training soon," a club statement read. Technical director Edu made it no secret of his admiration for the player.

“We are delighted that we have secured the transfer of Gabriel," the Brazilian transfer chief said. "Everyone who knows football well, knows the qualities of Gabriel Jesus.

"Gabriel is a player who we have admired for a long time now. He is 25 years old and an established Brazil international who has consistently demonstrated that he is a player at a very high level.

"We look forward to seeing him join up with his new teammates ahead of the new season. We all welcome Gabriel to Arsenal.”
