Future of Ralston Community Sports Centre set to be determined amid appeal

The fate of Ralston Community Sports Centre is set to be determined at a key meeting today.

Kelburne Hockey Club is due to find out the outcome of its appeal against a decision to refuse its takeover bid.

The club applied for a community asset transfer (CAT) of the centre from OneRen but was told by the council last summer it had been unsuccessful on grounds of "uncertainty of funding" to carry out works and "significant" community opposition to the plan.

It has since taken up the right to request a formal review, which was first considered by the CAT review sub-committee in January.

But a decision was delayed at that meeting as councillors asked for more information on aspects of the club's application.

The continuation was intended to allow time for more detail and evidence on issues such as funding and community engagement to footfall generated and the impact that would have in the local area.

The council must come to a decision on the appeal within six months of when it was first received, which was on September 29.

That means the deadline for the ruling is Tuesday, March 28.

The panel for the sub-committee comprises councillors Michelle Campbell, who will convene the meeting, Audrey Doig, Chris Gilmour, James MacLaren and John McNaughtan.
