Thirteen children attending a YMCA summer camp in New Jersey were hospitalized after eating chocolate believed to contain hallucinogenic mushrooms. This prompted police to investigate how the suspected drug-laced candy ended up in the hands of young campers.
Authorities said the children became ill after consuming the chocolate, which had reportedly been brought to camp by another child who believed it was ordinary candy received as a birthday gift. Emergency responders evaluated the children, who were transported to nearby hospitals as a precaution. Officials said all of the children were later reported to be in stable condition as investigators worked to determine exactly what the chocolate contained.
