Family say goodbye to boy, 5, who died one month after his dad

The funeral of a five-year-old boy who died after suffering a seizure was attended by a number of characters including Spider-Man, Lightning McQueen and Stormtroopers.

Jayden-Jay Silvester, known as JJ, died in hospital on New Year’s Eve, just 34 days after his dad Jason Silvester, who passed away on November 27.

JJ had been having a bath when he suffered a seizure and drowned at his home in Stoke-on-Trent.

He lost his fight for life at the Royal Stoke University Hospital later that day.

Mum Lisa Silvester, who lived in Liverpool city centre before moving to Stoke-on-Trent, paid tribute to her five-year-old son who she said will be "missed and forever in everybody's thoughts."

In a statement Lisa said: "Jayden-Jay (JJ) passed away on December 31. He was a very loving brother to Oscar, a loving son to Lisa, and a loving son to Jason who sadly passed away on November 27.

"JJ attended Newstead Primary Academy and they were his second family who love and miss him along with his school friends who JJ made smile everyday. JJ will be sadly missed and forever in everybody's thoughts."

Bikers and other characters also joined the funeral cortege on its way to Carmountside Crematorium in Stoke this afternoon, reports StokeOnTrentLive.

People dressed as Spider-Man and Stormtroopers from Star Wars walked alongside the hearse, while a car in the livery of Lightning MCQueen from Pixar film Cars followed behind.

The local community has rallied around grieving mum Lisa following the tragedy. Two fundraisers were held in Stoke over the weekend.

Lisa's best friend Cheryl-Marie Tomlinson, from Speke, who lived with her in the city centre for several years, is one of the people rallying around the mum-of-two.

She said: "We can never bring JJ back and never relieve Lisa's emotional burden but we can all pitch in to try to relieve the financial one to show our support and give Lisa something positive. All donations will go to JJ's memory as well as his little brother Oscar.

"I know Lisa is overwhelmed by the messages and support."
