'Fun, caring and kind' dad and chef dies aged 36

More tributes have been made to an adored Merseyside personality.

David Hunter, better known as 'Big Dave', died from health complications on Friday, September 2, with hundreds paying tribute to the dad-of-one on social media. Since the ECHO's original tribute, more comments and tributes have flooded in to the renowned chef who worked at Auberge Brasserie on Seabank Road in Southport.

Nicola KD said: "Dave truly was one of the nicest guys you could wish to meet. I had the privilege of calling him a friend. He meant so much to so many because of his fun, caring, kind personality. He was a real treasure."

Robert Aaron wrote: "Nice fella with kids I hope he is smiling up there."

Vicky Butler commented: "Amazing bloke; Such a sweet guy."

Sarah-jane Gilbert said: "RIP Chef."

A GoFundMe was set up shortly after the death of the much-loved 36-year-old, with House of Ivy on Lord Street taking donations in Big Dave's name for the British Heart Foundation. Posting on Facebook, the bar said: "We have a pot behind the bar for our good friend Dave Hunter who sadly passed last week to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, as per David’s family wishes.

"If you’re in with us or passing then please pop in and help us raise some money for him! The staff will also be adding their tips too

"We have also set up a GoFundMe page to donate to: https://gofund.me/c2258586. If you knew Dave, this is the perfect money tin for him."

Posted alongside his funeral details, Dave's family said: "In celebration of our beloved David. Father to Lydia, son to Julie and David, brother to Lucy, Sophie, Joshua, Eilis and Tom. Uncle to his adoring nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all of his family."

The service is set to take place at West Lancashire Crematorium on Pippin Street, Burscough before the reception at The Richmond in Southport.
