Taller ticket barriers will be installed at a number of UK railway stations in a bid to crackdown on fare evasion.
The move comes as part of a £33.4million package which will be rolled out by six train operators.
The DfT estimates fare evasion puts up to £400 million in rail revenue at risk each year – money which could otherwise be invested in maintaining the network, improving onboard Wi-Fi and upgrading rolling stock.
Train operators installing the barriers include Avanti West Coast, East Midlands Railway, Greater Anglia, Thameslink, TransPennine and West Midlands.
