An engine oil leak at Newcastle Airport triggered a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Williamtown emergency response on Wednesday morning.
Newcastle Airport confirmed the incident was not a fuel spill, but instead engine oil had leaked from a vehicle used to refuel an aircraft, rather than the aircraft itself.
As a precaution, RAAF firefighters and Newcastle Airport personnel responded immediately to make the area safe and clean up the oil.
The incident has been resolved and the aircraft departed as scheduled.
Airport operations or flight schedules were not affected.
A large, camouflaged bear-cat-like vehicle was at the scene on Wednesday morning attached to a trailer labelled 'RAAF Williamtown Major Spill Response'.
RAAF firefighters at the Williamtown base provide aircraft rescue and firefighting services for all military and civilian aircraft movements at the base, while also responding to structural emergencies.
The Newcastle Herald has contacted the RAAF for comment.
