- State Route 386, long known as Vietnam Veterans Boulevard, was initially also designated the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway after his assassination last September.
- Sumner County Commissioner Jeremy Mansfield announced the reversal, stating that veterans were "angry and frustrated" about the shared designation and had not been consulted.
- The Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway designation has been relocated to Long Hollow Pike in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, to honor Kirk without conflicting with the veterans' memorial.
- Republican State Representative Johnny Garrett was responsible for the state bill that initially designated the highway section for Kirk.
