From radical transparency to a 48-hour rule: How Melinda French Gates, Ray Dalio, Satya Nadella and David Shelley approach employee feedback

Melinda French Gates follows a 48-hour feedback rule when she is unhappy with an employee’s work. The philanthropist and former co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said she gives herself time to process her emotions before addressing concerns with employees. Her approach differs from the feedback philosophies of other business leaders, including Ray Dalio, Satya Nadella and Hachette chief David Shelley.

Speaking on Bloomberg Business’s Leaders with Francine Lacqua podcast, Gates said employees would hear from her within 48 hours if she was unhappy with their work. She explained that she needs time to process her emotions before responding, particularly when she is angry.
