Lakshya Kapur, a B.Tech graduate in Computer Science and Engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), recently joined Google as a Digital Business Marketing apprentice in Mumbai. In a reflective LinkedIn post, he described how the achievement once felt “impossible,” writing, “From @gmail.com to @google.com. Three years ago, this felt impossible.”
Kapur’s professional journey includes multiple internships in digital marketing, including roles at Aviz Networks and Mailmodo. At VIT, he was also actively involved in student activities, serving as Head of the Design Department at the SOLAI Club.
In his post, Kapur recalled feeling uncertain during his college years while peers appeared to have clearer career paths focused on coding and placements. He often questioned whether the traditional engineering route was right for him.
The turning point, he said, came in his fourth year when he decided to step away from rigid expectations and explore new directions. Without a guaranteed outcome, he began working on a startup project, which gradually helped him discover a strong interest in brand building, digital marketing, and creative work.
“What started as a leap of faith slowly became a defining phase,” he wrote, explaining how he found himself deeply engaged in creative and marketing work for hours without noticing the passage of time.
Kapur emphasised that clarity did not come from overthinking but from action and experimentation. While he admitted to periods of doubt and comparison with peers, he continued exploring opportunities and learning through experience.
He now describes his role at Google as the beginning of a longer journey rather than a final milestone. In his message to others facing confusion in their careers, he encouraged taking small steps instead of waiting for complete clarity.
“If you’re feeling confused right now, it’s okay. You don’t need to have everything figured out. Just start somewhere,” he wrote, urging students to try different paths and observe what genuinely interests them.
His post has received widespread appreciation on LinkedIn, with users praising his willingness to experiment and highlighting how his story reflects the importance of learning through action rather than overthinking. Many students, especially from smaller colleges, said they found his journey relatable and motivating.
