- A friend of former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax has spoken out after he fatally shot his wife in a murder-suicide Thursday morning.
- Fairfax and his wife, Cerina Fairfax, were found dead in their Annandale home after their teen son called 911 shortly after midnight. The couple’s two teenage children were inside the house at the time of the shooting.
- Sophia Nelson, a journalist and author who was a “close friend” to Justin Fairfax, said she is devastated by the tragedy.
- “I will have more to say about the late former Lt. Governor of Virginia Justin Fairfax. He was a close friend,” she wrote in a post on X. “I spoke to him if not daily. Often. He was deeply depressed. He was going through a bad divorce. Still sharing home with his wife. And those who knew him we were talking to him. We never saw this coming. Ever. We are all devastated.”
- She added in a follow-up post, “I am devastated. In my office sobbing. I just spoke to him the other day. I am devastated. Those poor kids. They have no parents now. Their lives irreparably changed. Forever. I am horrified. And his wife, too. I just have no words.”
