Fresh Xbox discoveries point to "Duet" codename: A possible companion to "Triton" and more Game Pass subscription tiers?

Xbox Game Pass.

Not long ago, I covered a newly surfaced codename, "TRITON," discovered by @redphx on X (formerly Twitter), who routinely tracks Game Pass updates through Microsoft’s public-facing backend.

Since Triton was uncovered, redphx has now identified another codename appearing alongside it, called “Duet.”

For those unfamiliar, Triton is believed to be a new Game Pass tier. Unlike existing tiers such as Essential, Premium, and Ultimate, it would reportedly focus only on games from Xbox Studios, including Bethesda, Double Fine, and other studios that Xbox has acquired.

For now, all we have is some speculation. redphx suggests it could be tied to recent talks between Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters, in which they “kicked around ideas,” suggesting some sort of partnership between the two companies.

In other words, Duet could point to a bundle that combines Xbox Game Studios titles with Netflix into a single package. I'm not sure how I would feel about that or whether I would use it, but more options rarely hurt.

For now, it sits alongside Asha Sharma’s recent wave of updates to Xbox, including new customization features and recent changes to the achievement system.

Sharma has also confirmed that a dedicated team is now focused on long-requested features. That gives some hope that Xbox could be on a steady road to recovery, or at the very least one that improves its public perception.

Would you be excited to see more variety in Game Pass tiers, or do you think Xbox needs to address last year’s price increase first?

While it is encouraging to see Xbox seemingly explore new ways to add value, the core issue still remains. Right now, the service does not let users pay for what they actually want. For example, I should not be paying $30 a month for Ultimate because it includes Fortnite Crew when I don't even play Fortnite.
