NEW DELHI: Jos Buttler, England's white-ball captain, will not be participating in the one-day international series during the upcoming West Indies tour due to a recent injury setback, as announced by ECB officials on Monday.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had previously stated that Buttler would be returning from an extended injury break to captain the team in three ODIs, beginning with the first match in Antigua on October 31.
However, a statement released by the ECB on Monday revealed that Buttler would be absent from the ODIs due to "a slight setback in his rehabilitation" from a calf injury.
Despite this, the wicketkeeper-batsman is anticipated to join the tour group in Barbados prior to the start of the five-match T20 series on November 9.
In Buttler's absence, Liam Livingstone will take on the role of captain for the ODI series, marking his first time leading the England team.
England has yet to make a decision regarding the addition of a replacement player to the squad.
Buttler, who was part of England's World Cup-winning team in 2019, is widely regarded as one of the most explosive white-ball batsmen of his generation.
However, the 34-year-old has not played since the T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies in June, where England was unable to defend their title.
