A man has been hit with fresh charges for allegedly possessing child abuse material, on top allegations of human trafficking.

Surya Subekti faced Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday, where a judge heard prosecutors have brought additional charges against him.

The 43-year-old is alleged to have acted as the ringleader of a syndicate which lured vulnerable women and girls from Indonesian slums to work in Sydney brothels.

It is alleged Subekti arranged false documentation for a girl he knew to be under 18-years-old and brought her to Australia where she performed sex work, according to court documents.

Commonwealth prosecutors have now also charged Subekti with possessing and sharing child abuse material in relation to the same girl.

He is also facing an additional charge of organising entry of a person under 18-years-old to provide sex services, on top of two existing counts for the same offence.

Subekti remains on bail under conditions including that he not go within 500 metres of a brothel or access the internet.

According to court documents, Subekti pleaded guilty in March 2021 to evading payment of a duty on 21,064 cigarettes which he brought from Indonesia and for which he was fined over $25,000.

Other charges of goods smuggling and making a false or misleading statement to an officer were withdrawn and dismissed.

The matter will return to court on November 12.
