Freddie Flintoff was left in utter agony for over 45 minutes with horror jaw injuries after his near-fatal crash in December, it's been reported.
BBC bosses have now been accused of 'failing to properly look after' the Top Gear star after his horror car crash.
Former England cricketer Freddie, 45, is said to have been shooting an episode for the hit BBC series at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome before the incident occurred.
Freddie was reportedly injured as he told the BBC cameras his opinion of the car for the show's review segment, however sources claimed back in December that his injuries were 'not life-threatening'.
His co-star Chris Harris - who presents the show alongside the former cricketer and Paddy McGuinness - were also at the Top Gear test track.
At the time of the crash, a BBC spokesperson told The Mirror: "Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning - with crew medics attending the scene immediately.
"He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course."
However, a new report from The Sun now claims that Freddie was left in agony for almost an hour before he was 'properly looked after' by BBC bosses.
The report claims that Freddie was not wearing a helmet in the car, the car had no airbag, and no stretcher could be found after the smash took place at Dunsfold aerodrome in Surrey.
The BBC was asked to conduct a health and safety review into Freddie's Top Gear crash but are reportedly 'refusing to ever publish the findings'.
BBC bosses have now been accused of failings in its duty of care towards the show’s host.
The claim of failings include the star having to face an agonising 45-minute wait for an air ambulance as well as no medical stretcher being located on set.
Freddie was reportedly without a helmet on set and the 130mph Morgan Super 3 sports car was not fitted with an airbag.
Sharing the claims with The Sun, a source said: "How this could have been allowed to happen on a notoriously high octane show like Top Gear, which is famed for its dangerous stunts, is beyond bewildering.
“The BBC has been keen to keep a lid on the extent of Freddie’s injuries for obvious reasons. The accident itself was far worse than anyone really realises — it’s hard to put into words, really; what he went through is simply unimaginable.
“But essentially the car turned over at speed, and Freddie — who also broke some ribs — understandably is traumatised by the whole thing. He’s been incredibly brave and stoical, and thankfully is getting stronger. He’s just taking things week by week.”
The Top Gear star reportedly suffered horror injuries to his jaw and broken ribs in the near-fatal smash in December.
The Mirror has reached out to a BBC spokesperson and Freddie's representatives for comment on this story.
The BBC had no comment on the new claims, but referred back to a previous statement.
"In March we concluded our investigation into the accident at the Top Gear Test Track in Surrey, which regrettably injured presenter Freddie Flintoff," the earlier statement reads.
"We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and continue to support him with his recovery. A health and safety review of the show is underway, in line with our procedures."
