More details of the accident involving Freddie Flintoff on the set of Top Gear have emerged suggesting two men were dragged in a flipped car and that the BBC show itself may be cancelled.
Last December, reports first emerged that the 45-year-old former cricketer had been involved in a horror accident while on the set of the BBC show.
The star was said to be “lucky to be alive” after the accident left him hospitalised and suffering with broken bones after the accident occurred on the Top Gear test track.
But fresh reports say the accident was even worse than fans could imagine - and it is hinted the incident was made worse by the fact the vehicle involved in the incident didn’t have a roof.
An insider told The Sun: “The injuries were more severe as the car didn’t have a roof.
"It was a freak accident and somehow the car flipped over and the two men were dragged along.
“Freddie and the crew member were both wearing helmets, but it was still a severe accident.
“Everyone on the scene was shocked by how serious it was and they were very worried about the two men strapped in."
The source went on to claim that it is unclear exactly when filming of Top Gear will resume in light of the accident - and hinted that the show's very continued existence is now in doubt.
The latest update comes just a week after it was reported Freddie won’t return to work on the show at all this year.
Production was paused on the BBC show after the sport star's crash last year and it was reported that bosses want to give Freddie sufficient time to recover before filming resumes.
And it is also expected that Top Gear - which usually launches on BBC One in the Autumn, between October and November - will debut slightly later for 2023 due to the horrific crash.
Last month, friends of Freddie claimed he was considering quitting the show entirely after the incident.
A source close to the star told The Times: “He was making a good recovery physically following the crash, but the psychological impact was less clear.”
It was reported the star was left “psychologically traumatised” when a stunt went wrong at the Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey, in sub-zero temperatures on December 13.
Freddie’s 16-year-old son Corey previously told the Daily Mail: "He's OK. I'm not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.
"It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he's going to be OK."
And Piers Morgan previously revealed that Freddie had been left shaken by the accident.
He told TalkSport last month: "I'm told it was a pretty serious crash and that Freddie's going to be OK, but it might be a little bit more serious than first appreciated.
"I'm told he's going to be OK which is great news, but I'm also told it was a pretty nasty bang and that he's had surgery and is recovering now and we'll have to wait and see.
"I've been in contact with them privately, but I just want to wish him and his family, Rachel his wife, all the very best and I think we're all just keeping our fingers crossed that the big man comes through alright."
