Fred has hailed new Manchester United teammate and countryman Antony as a “great player” and is hopeful he can adapt to the Premier League quickly.
The Brazilian was signed for a fee that could rise to £85m on deadline day and may make his debut against Arsenal on Sunday. The 22-year-old reunites with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, with whom he won back-to-back Eredivisie titles.
Antony has played nine times for his country, six of which alongside Fred who commended the winger for becoming a regular national team squad member with the World Cup just around the corner.

“Everyone knows he’s a great player,” he told ESPN Brasil. “He did very well in the last few years at Ajax, so much so that he went to the Brazilian national team.
“It’s not easy to get to the Brazilian national team and he is present in the squad. And he’s a great player, very skilled, everyone knows that, his characteristics. He’s also incisive, very skilful towards the goal.”
Fred vowed to help Antony bed into life at United with the aim of ensuring he carries on the good form he showed at Ajax, after scoring twice in three games for them this season following his 12-goal and 10-assist haul last term.
“I hope he can adapt here as quickly as possible and will add a lot of quality to our attack,” he added. “So those of us who have been here for a little longer will help him to adapt quickly and be able to be comfortable to enter the pitch and give his best.”
Antony becomes the fourth Brazilian to be among United’s ranks after Casemiro and Alex Telles, who has been loaned out to Sevilla. United will see how Antony gets on during two training sessions before Sunday before making a decision on whether he is included to face Arsenal.
